Today was a beautiful day for sightseeing in RMNP. Bev, Laura, and I decided to hike the Gem Lake Trail and Lumpy Ridge Loop, which is a 4.4-mile hike of moderate level. The Gem Lake trailhead is located off Rte. 43 about 2 miles from the junction of 43 and Rte 34. Along the rocky trail there were good views of the Estes Park area with aspen adding nice fall colors to the route. The hike to Gem Lake was a constant climb from 7,800 ft to 8,900 ft in about 2 miles with the final 0.2 mile being very steep and rocky. Gem Lake was a very small lake this late in the season, but it was a nice spot to relax after the steep climb. Going back to the trailhead was much easier!
